Phil Spector won’t be turning his new prison cell into a jailbird studio, according to a report.
Spector would probably not avail himself of his instrument privileges, said his wife Rachelle Spector. “He has not requested an instrument, and I doubt if he will,” she said.
He was, however, seeking an I-Pod. “He wants a TV and an I-Pod or something like that for listening to music,” she said, adding, “And he would like to be able to receive e-mail.”
Spector was transferred from an intake centre in Kern County to the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility and State Prison at Corcoran, where older prisoners and those with substance problems are held. Some are reported to play music. Spector is a medium-security prisoner.
Rachelle reportedly wrote a letter complaining about the Kern facility and alleging Spector had been forced to sleep naked on the floor for two nights and eat out of a bowl with his hands. The California Department of Corrections denied the allegation, saying it would be in violation of the law and its policies.
Spector, 69, has a 19-year prison term after being convicted of the second-degree murder of Lana Clarkson at his Hollywood mansion in 2003.
