Mel Gibson puts a lot of stake in gardening in the path to self-improvement.
Growing vegetables and digging dirt ditches have both served Gibson, who has become a father for the eighth time with the birth of Lucia Anne to Russian girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva.
“Some of the best advice I was given, a long time ago, was from a guy who said: ‘You want to make yourself better, go and dig a ditch.’ So, a lot of that’s been going on, ditch-digging, vegetable-growing.”
Gibson noted that male menopause may have whispered to him. At least he does not find the same things funny at 53 that he did at a younger age. “The choices you make are just totally different because of maturity, male menopause, whatever outside influence is acting on you. You just look around and see, sometimes, that what you’d laugh at in 1970 is totally not funny now,” he said.
