So You Think You Can Dance star Shane Sparks arrested on child molestation charges
So You Think You Can Dance choreographer Shane Sparks has been arrested on child molestation charges, according to reports.
Sparks, 40, a dance instructor affiliated with the US version of the show hosted by Cat Deeley, was arrested at his North Hollywood home yesterday morning.
According to legal documents, the award-winning choreographer has been charged with eight counts of child sex abuse.
His victim, who has not been named, was below the age of 14 when the alleged abuse began, according to the papers.
“Sparks has been the subject of an ongoing child-molestation investigation,” a police spokesman said. “He was booked into jail and is being held in lieu of $590,000 bail.”
Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, said the criminal complaint was filed by the alleged victim, who reported it to the authorities.
She said: “It occurred in the ’90s… and went on for several years.
“She was an under-age girl… when the alleged crimes occurred. She is an adult now and came forward to authorities.”
It is the second sex-abuse scandal to hit the dance series this year.
Alex Da Silva, who choreographed the show’s salsa, mambo and tango routines, was arrested in August on charges that he raped four of his dance students.
