Helen Mirren has on-screen slip up
Helen Mirren showed off a little more leg than planned during an appearance on a US chat show.
The 64-year-old British actress put her hand over her face to cover her embarrassment when host Ellen DeGeneres pointed out her petticoat was on show.
Rushing to cover up the fashion faux pas, the Queen star gulped: “Oops. I’m getting over-excited.”
Mirren’s slip-up came as she was discussing the widely-publicised paparazzi photograph of her looking svelte in a red bikini.
Expressing horror when DeGeneres showed her audience the snap, the actress modestly claimed she had been caught at an unusually flattering angle.
“It was luck. It was pure luck. Honestly, I swear to you, I do not look like that – I don’t,” she said.
Mirren revealed she had actually been posing for her husband, Taylor Hackford, when photographers captured her unaware.
“I looked like that in that moment, only because I happened to be posing for a photograph,” she laughed.
“So I was holding my stomach in and looking like this [mimics pose] and he took a photograph.
“As he took the photograph I just saw a flash up in these wild hills of a camera. Taylor said I just dropped out of shot like a stone and now I’m just spread-eagled on the rock like this going ‘There’s a paparazzi up there’.”
Mirren, who stars in new movie The Last Station, also blushed when DeGeneres showed a photo of the Italian castle she bought in 2007 to celebrate winning the Best Actress Oscar.
