Stars flocked to the Laureus Sports Awards in ritzy Abu Dhabi to see Usain Bolt (pictured) named World Sportsman of the Year, and Serena Williams Sportswoman of the Year.

Gwyneth Paltrow donned a Hollywood gown to help Hugh Grant hand awards to the winning sportspeople. Other stars in attendance included host Kevin Spacey, Mika, Dame Kelly Holmes and Andrew Flintoff, the UK Mirror reports.

Britain’s Jenson Button won the Laureus Breakthrough of the Year Award for scoring his first driver’s championship. Bolt was recognised for the three gold medals he trawled at last year’s track world championships and world records he set in the 100- and 200-metre races.

Williams, ranked No.1 in women’s tennis for 2009, won the Australian Open and Wimbledon titles. Popular comeback queen Kim Clijsters earned the award for the Comeback of the Year.

The three-time world surfing champion Stephanie Gilmore of Australia was selected to win the World Action Sportsperson of the Year, the AP reports.

Hollywood stars Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards have won awards at Bollywood’s equivalent of the Razzies, the Golden Kela Awards, according to reports.

Stallone, 63, and Richards, 39, both won the Have You Gone Crazy Award for their performances in romantic movie Kambakkht Ishq, (aka Unfortunate Love), which also won two other awards, including Worst Film, at the ceremony held in New Delhi on Friday.

Stallone and Richards did not attend the event to pick up their gongs.

Indo-American statesman Rajan Zed has said in a statement today that both actors should have been brave enough to attend the gala and acknowledge what the awards mean as a learning experience.

Hollywood stars Sylvester Stallone and Denise Richards have been nominated for awards at Bollywood’s equivalent of the Razzies.

The two stars received nominations for Bollywood’s annual Golden Kela Awards, which recognises the worst performances.

Richards, 39, and Stallone, 63, have both been nominated for the BAAWRA ho gaya hai ke Award, which translates as Have you gone CRAZY Award, for their performances in Kambakkht Ishq, Unfortunate Love.

The movie has been nominated for seven more of the awards, including worst film.

There is also a ‘most atrocious lyrics award’ and Abbas Tyrewala has received a nomination in the category for track Chiggy Wiggy from the movie Blue.

The song was performed by Australian star Kylie Minogue.

Director James Cameron and his former wife, director Kathryn Bigelow, are nominated for the same prize at this year’s Directors Guild Of America awards.

The DGA announced its nominees for the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Feature Film in 2009 prize that included among them Cameron for Avatar and Bigelow for The Hurt Locker. The pair was married from 1989 to 1991.

Other nominees for the prestigious prize include Lee Daniels for Precious, Jason Reitman for Up In The Air and Quentin Tarantino (pictured) for Inglourious Basterds. The winner will be announced at a gala dinner to be held at the Hyatt Century Plaza Hotel on January 30.

DGA president, Taylor Hackford, said: “The DGA Award is especially meaningful to directors because it is decided solely by their peers – the men and women who have been in the same trenches and know exactly what goes into the crafting of a unique motion picture. The five nominees for this year have each expressed an indelible vision that transported audiences to vivid vistas of cinematic art. My heartiest congratulations to all of the nominees.”

Sandra Bullock will present a lifetime achievement award to Betty White at the SAG Awards ceremony.

Executive producer Jeff Margolis announced the upcoming presentation at the 67th SAGs to be televised on January 23.

Bullock co-starred with White in The Proposal, a slapstick rom com released last year. Bullock is a nominee for a SAG this year for her performance in the surprise hit The Blind Side, a football-themed flick which has already won her much acclaim.

White appeared on The Mary Tyler Moore Show and The Golden Girls. Bullock, meanwhile, has been ranked the top-earning Hollywood star in 2009.

Paris Hilton has posted pictures on her Twitter page of herself and boyfriend Doug Reinhardt at the MTV Movie Awards.

Hotel heiress Paris, 28, attended the awards with boyfriend Doug, 23, and posted pictures of herself and Doug at the awards and on their way to the bash.

Paris also posted a message that said: “Just left the MTV Awards. Definately the best awards show they’ve done yet. Mark Burnett the producer rocks! Andy Sandberg so Hilarious!!”

Paris was referring to the show’s host Andy Samberg, an American comedian and Saturday Night Live star.

He took over the role from last year’s host, Austin Powers star Mike Myers.

A good friend once told me to never have expectations so you don’t have to be disappointed. That’s why I paid little mind to news that Britney Spears was going to open the VMAs. It would have been a remarkable comeback if she did but her manager Larry Rudolph said that the former and looking to be one-again Princess of Pop wasn’t performing. She attended and opened the show though – just in a different manner. Sure there was footage of Britney rehearsing a new song with some dancers but her manager says that it was just her going into the studio with some friends and having fun. So no, her performance didn’t get cut off the show because she still sucked.

Daniel Day-Lewis won the Screen Actors Guild award for outstanding male actor in There Will Be Blood. While accepting the award, he paid tribute to Heath Ledger.

He said that Heath was “an inspiration” and “unique”. Daniel said, “Of course, in Brokeback Mountain he was unique. He was perfect. And that scene in the trailer at the end of the film was as moving as anything I’ve ever seen.”

Later, he was asked why he chose to dedicate his award to Heath. Daniel’s response was, “I suppose that’s all I’ve been thinking about for the last few days. I never met him. I thought he was beautiful. I just have a very strong feeling that I would have liked him very much as a man…I admired him very much.”

Lindsay Lohan has received nine nominations for her new movie in the Oscars. Great news right? Wrong. The nominations are for the year’s worst movies. The troubled actress is hotly tipped to win the Worst Actress award for her dual role in the thriller I Know Who Killed Me.

Lindsay, 21 – ordered to do community service for drink-driving – plays an abducted girl and a stripper who is missing body parts. The film is up for eight other “Razzies”, including Worst Picture.

Awards founder John Wilson said: “I Know Who Killed Me is the most fabulously brainless movie since Showgirls, which Razzie voters picked as the worst movie of the 1990s.“By the end of it, you still don’t know what happened.”

The Writers Guild has already taken the Golden Globes away from us but now, they are looking to take away the Grammy’s too. How is the music business hurting the striking writers?! The ceremony may be airing on CBS and the network is part of the big media that is refusing to negotiate with the writes but the WGA already said that it would refuse to grant the Grammy’s a waiver that would allow them to use WGA members to write the show.

It’s not yet clear how much of an impact a WGA picket line would have on the awards show but the ceremony will have to make do without the usual 10-20 actors who usually serve as presenters.
